Hey dude, would you have any tips for doing yoga by oneself? I’ve done it in a class before, but I can’t ever remember all the different forms or how to progress from one to the other.
I started off by mimicking the same video, as much as possible, until I got comfortable and remembered the simple poses. When I got bored, I switched up videos.
Now I’ve got a good enough handle where I can design my own sequences and I just jump on the mat, rather than waiting on video instruction. There are apps and websites that help with that too.
It’s really easy to practice yoga alone, you just have to be more mindful and respectful of your limitations. If something hurts, you shouldn’t do it. If something feels wrong, adjust, play around with it. Record yourself or practice in front of a mirror to help refine your posture.
spindip asked: Besides yoga, do you do any gym workouts?
Nah, never gym. Normal stuff.
Resistance workouts with body weight (sit ups, squats, etc). And I use a pull up bar for heavier upper body and ab conditioning. Skateboarding for full body, core, and cardio. And biking if I want to focus on my legs.
I also practice “power yoga”, which is essentially stuff like sit ups, just with asanas. Downward dog push ups are a common one.
